Prefixr documentation

Prefixr is a native Linux app for running Windows games with Wine and Proton. These pages cover everything from the first launch to how the code is put together. Also as a website with search: https://firsttris.github.io/prefixr/

For players

  • Getting started: install Prefixr, download a runner, create a prefix and launch your first game.
  • User guide: every part of the app in detail. That covers the library, installers, prefixes, runners, the per-game settings, artwork, Steam and the tray.
  • Configuration & files: where Prefixr keeps its data, the command-line options, the API keys it can use, and what a launch sets up.
  • Command line & AI agents: manage the library, prefixes and runners from a terminal or a script, and let an AI agent such as Claude Code set up your games.
  • Troubleshooting & FAQ: what to do when a game doesn't start or the app misbehaves, plus answers to common questions.

For contributors

  • Development: building from source, the architecture, translations, the generated TypeScript types, tests, CI and releases.
  • Rust test coverage notes: a snapshot of the backend's test coverage.
  • Ideas: upscaling: features that could come next: Gamescope upscaling, the FSR 4 upgrade in Proton, and OptiScaler.
